Oak Ridge

In 1957, we began clearing the land ourselves for the first structure built at Oak Ridge.  It was one room with a wood stove.  Over the next 15 years, each of the other rooms was added one at a time, including the deck, two docks, the pump house, and the "cat walk."  The "cat walk" went between the screened porch and the deck and it was heavily traveled by my mother’s Siamese cats.  Electricity and a telephone were added in 1972.

Oak Ridge OuthouseThe outhouse in what we call "the cedar grove" was towed over in pieces by boats from Cousin Julia Fairley’s island.  It was truly a "Muskoka project."  To this day, it stands tall as my second bathroom!
